We are really pleased to announce that we're taking part in Shitbox Rally 2019 Spring!! This year, all the teams are driving their shitboxes from Melbourne to Townsville, via Birdsville... Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 10th year. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 but most teams raise well above this amount as you can see with the 2019 Spring rally target set at $2,000,000 plus. These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,000, this year for the 10th year anniversary rally, over a 7 day across Australia endeavour to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally 2019Update:Dave and I would like to introduce the newest member our team. This member has been a trusty part of many lives for the past 18 years. Families have depended on her on a daily basis and she has delivered every time!Whether it’s going to the shops or a family trip through the rolling hills in the countryside... the open road with its twists and turns, she just eats them up mile after mile! ...the cardboard box, the landslide, the suicidal wallaby... this ol’ girl, bruised and battered has just soldiered on.
Having been retired by her previous owner and being laid to rest 12 months ago in the cooling shade of a picturesque grape vine, we met and it was love at first sight!
With nothing more than a quick jumpstart, she spluttered into life, eager to embark on the epic journey that is the 2019 Shitbox Rally!
Driven onto the trailer, by her own steam, our humble steed is settled. She’s got the odd scratch, dent, crack, special way to open and close the drivers door and open/close the drivers window, oil leak, but she’s a beaut! Perfect for the rally. A bit of love and she will be ready to get cracking on another all Aussie Adventure!
Thanks to the generosity of Brad Mertens, this beauty has been donated to us with our first financial donation.
With this generosity, we are on the way to our $20,000 goal!
Introducing our chariot:
Thanks to the guys down at at Goodyear Huonville! We got some tyres donated along with a wheel alignment for this beauty!Almost ready to get cracking on another All Aussie Adventure... just needs some CV shafts and it will be up for sale! Thanks again to the Goodyear Huonville team! It’s great when we start getting support from the community to help us raise much needed funds for vital cancer research. In the last 10 years, Shitbox Rally has raised over $16,000,000 for Cancer Research and hopefully we can contribute a sizeable amount to the cause as well!
Team Rustle 'n' Quoits are in the process of organising a quiz night for our fund raising campaign. More to follow in the coming days.
Thanks Dymocks Hobart for some the books you kindly donated. These will go well at our silent auction at our quiz night.
Thanks Kate from Pennicott Wilderness Journeys for kindly donating a voucher for 2 adults on on one of your eco cruises. This will no doubt be a hot commodity at the silent auction! If you want to see some of Tasmania's most stunning wilderness from the comfort of one of the Pennicott vessels, then you better come along to our quiz night!
Jack Sikkema who owns Jack’s Complete Car Detailing took on the task of Detailing one of the cars we sold for our funds.
The car was pretty dirty when we bought it and once Jack was finished it looked like it could have just rolled off the showroom floor!
Jack spent the best part of 2 days on it and his hard work undoubtedly made a huge difference to our sale price.
Thanks Jack! If anyone is considering Detailing their car, I highly recommend him!
